intern-SHIT
I was assigned to call up sub-contractors to tender for specialist works in the "preliminaries" part of a project. Had to call up security firms, safety specialists, disposal services..blahblah...and invite then to submit a quotation. The fun part is they all think im holding some impt post in the company so when they send fax all sound very polite and apologetic.. haha...but the worst part is having to compare the prices of the various companies and see which are the better deals....because the various firms all charge different ways...for example: per service or per ton... hmm QS job isnt it? i should think so.
So my next job: MEASUREMENT. i met the GM of the company. He sounds like a very nice guy. Very friendly, sincere and humble. 30 years in the industry and not an ounce of arrogance. can be my role model sia...think he garners quite alot of respect from the employees too. Anyways, he trusted me enough to ask me to measure the entire floor finishes for an upcoming project that the company already tendered for. Now is the doing a more detailed estimate for the project part.
Well to start with, the project consists of two 6-stories bldgs and both had a shit-load of different types of finishes. Like really ALOT. think in total, about 17 differrent types of finishes. 17!! argh. Currently, im on the 2nd day of the assignment and im still stuck on the first few! maybe coz i had to measure all the dimensions...coz the dimensions given were quite lup-sup...anyway, im glad i paid attention during teo ai lin's classes and also glad i took the Cost Estimation module..or else the whole tendering process will be a blur to me! or yes..good thing too i bought the scale-ruler! haaha. for now, its the loooong weekend! can finally sleep more than 6hours! :)

first day as an INTERN
- Spent 50mins on the train to Expo
- Took 25mins to walk from Expo mrt to the office building. Crap right? even the public bus refuse go to such an ulu place.. -_-
- reached 20mins early. Spent THAT next 20mins waiting for somebody to "receive" me. why do i bother coming early? ok maybe that one is my own doing
- Talked to my supervisor for about half an hour. She's a QS and a Chief Estimator at that. Woah.
- My first assignment: Read a THICK stack of contract documents for a project they are currently tendering for and come up with the "project brief" . i had to come up with the "scope of work" and blahblah...of some primary school. ok at first this duty was kinda interesting initially coz i was actually reading sth that was from a REAL construction project and not some made-up one imagined by the prof. and also, because of measurement and cost estimating, what i read was super familiar. haha most came from measurement coz of the Specifications needed for the contractor to put in the "rate". i was most excited when i came across the "schedule of rates". wow...concrete, re-bar to BS4449, doors, ironmongery... they sure look exactly to what we have in school...hmm looks like our profs are doing a good job. :)
- Lunch. ok my colleague was nice as he volunteered to drive me to the nearest foodcourt at that area. (can u imagine how ulu it is now? must drive to the foodcourt one can... lol)
- After lunch. My goodness...Z monster was sure determine to attack me and WON, haha yes i took a nap after lunch. haha but short one la. 15mins
- ok now the horrible part. i went through the specs of the project and guess what...just the specs and it took up about 100+++ pages....read and read and read till i started to get SUPER bored. i took out my phone and WOO, i had no reception at my cubicle. excellent timing to know that right? haha..so it was back to the stupid specs. haha.
- Toilet
- Toilet
- Toilet
- Toilet
- Toilet
- Toilet
- Toilet
- WHAT?! 4pm only??!!!!
- ToiletToiletToiletToiletToiletToiletToiletToilet grrrrr only 430pm??!!!
- i gave up. i took the contract docs and look for my supervisor.
me: "ermm...no offense, but this stuff is kinda boring. Do i need to read everything?"
Supervisor: "ohhhhh ya it can get very dry...nono u dun have to read everything."
me: "ohhh okok..." (shit stupid me...)
SO the rest of the day i just sat at my table and busy myself with lots of things. like more toilet breaks, walk around and see what other pple are doing. And omg la..the whole office is filled with QS-es..and they are all doing the same thing...looking at BQs....looking at plans....doing taking-off...there was this woman did taking-off the whole day. i asked her why she dun use software she replied: " ohhh this project dont have soft copy" i was like ohhh really..poor you...but of course i said it in my head only. hah
Yahh thats my first day as an intern. totally poured ice cold water on my excitement for working in the industry la...hopefully it'll become better as the days goes past...looking forward to being posted to the site! which is at Jurong East! hoho...cant-wait-dez-neh!!

Exams-over time
Been slacking for 3 whole days before Huifang and Weichen finally finish their last paper..seems like eternity that MY own last paper was over..haha although it was only 3 days...I picked them (hf, wc and Joyce) up from Vivocity after their "monster" story (which was worse than a horror flick by the way) at about 9pm and we headed off to Mount Faber, The Jewel Box..woolahlah...
Oh i totally ripped this from the web. hehe we didnt take one of the whole glass bar thingy- nice RIGHT?I parked the car and we had to make quite a long walk up to the place. We went to this open-air bar which was called The Glass Bar(dun ask me why their names so coolio-milo haha) and ordered some drinks. Poor me had to order mocktail coz i was the driver but the other 3 girls happily ordered non-alcoholic drinks too...haha good friends wanna pei wo mah...lol
Well, the view up there was rather nice...the breeze was good...no mosquitoes...the ambience was soft with candlelights...the live music was power too...some tina-turner wannabe was crooning away..maybe too loud for normal conversation to go on...but nonetheless it was good...from our seats we could see sentosa and keppel bay and....ermm alot of lights...hahaha...
Joyce said that this type of place only couples would go to coz it's so 'romantic' material-type but hey look around and the pple in groups of more than 2 out-do the couples man...furthermore, the tables come with a set of 4 chairs...ok maybe thats too far-fetched.
It was nice la, we managed to catch-up, talked...i even brought along a book with many "life questions" in it in case we ran out of topics to talk about. haha..We should really do this again...and please before i go off to Korea. :)
AND YES, i received a sms today telling me i have been selected for the top10 finalists of the sde dnd pageant. -_- To all my "voters" out there...u all happy liao larh...the saboh successful...haha..eh and i still dunno who put my name up there in the first place. hmm.

Exams..woohoo
Cost estimation paper today was seriously "chui" la....no other word to describe it....lol...first of all, the 1st question on Aprox Estimating was totally what i didnt expect! Read the question then read it thrice more! couldnt believe she was giving away marks likt that! I continued the question....ohhh then i realised why it's worth 30marks...ALL of it....there was simply too much stuff to write! draw 2 tables! During exams?! M-A-D-N-E-S-S
Then the essay questions...ok larh they were not so difficult but as i was answering them...i felt like i was doing another module...maybe like....Scope? Sustainability? no idea...then theres the element of not enough time! argh...i spent 45mins answering a 50marks question...Quality= ZERO....this reminds me of what xuemei said," Wahhh i heard many pple..no actually i heard A say 'this exams no time to finish all my papers!'..wah when i heard that, i was consoled enough le....muahahaha YES"
LOL stupid Xuemei...his "finish" maybe is no time to thoroughly check through his answers le? or no time start with a intro and a conclusion leh? hahaha....hilarious man...

Mouldy Blog
I just finished the last project today and that's Research Mtds. This project takes up only 10% of the final marks but yet the effort put in doesnt justify the puny marks given. yucckks...
Dunno why but this project however seems to take it's toll on me. Just doing my part took me an entire day just to crack my head to craft out the research methodology for the research project. think the problem was caused by poor crafting of the initial TQAO and also not much discussion on how exactly i should go about in writing a reaseach methodology. First time somemore.
Wow. I typed so much. AMAZING. I hope i feel sane enough to come up for air as we ALL dive in DEEP into the sea of books and notes...
ALL THE BEST FOR THE EXAMS!! :)

April Fool?
Went to Vivocity today with Grace. It has been a long long time since the both of us went out and enjoy ourselves without "study" on our agenda...Looks like we had more time to go out when i was in army lorh..Blame the stupid projects, assignments and the dumb-ass CAP system. :S
We caught a movie called "The Bucket List". Skipped dinner coz no time and smuggled in Old Chang Kee, Korea street snacks and more fried stuff lol. MAde a lot of noise crunching on the fried food and rustling the plastic bags haha. think our neighbours were cursing at us under their breaths... YES the movie. It was a great emo show. Played out by JAck Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. Great actors by the way. Basically it's about 2 guys who were about to die in a year's time coz of cancer and they decided to write a list of the many things they want to do before....yes, before they kick the bucket. Sounds very cliche and used theme but the story is really touching. Especially at the part where Jack Nicholson spoke at Morgan's eulogy and told everyone that he loved the man and said he would missed him. It was just pure unadulterated guy-guy love that few men will dare to confess to nowadays la....for fear of being stereotyped to being gay and all...Show was not all sad and mushy though. Jack Nicholson's crazy nature added humour here and there throughout the show..all in all im glad i watched this instead of some fantasy One Empress and the Warriors show. hahaha...
After that we walked ard at Vivo to get presents for David Mak and i after much thought, i bought him a lime green mug from Tangs and a whiteboard calender from some lifestyle shop! This was all for SM appreciation day when the disciples gather and give thanks to the SM's that poured in so much energy and strength to developing us. hehe. Well let's just say i have much to give thanks for. =)
